My Year in Pictures 2013

So we’re fast approaching the end of yet another year and once again it has reached that time when it seems that every photographer with access to some sort of social media bombards the unwary viewer with a load of pictures that they’ve shot throughout the year……..and alas dear reader……I’m no different!

Now just to warn you – I’ve included quite a few pictures here – but then again it’s my blog so I can 😉 So grab a brew or a glass of your favourite Rioja, sit back and scroll through some of the pictures I’ve shot over this last year. Some were taken when out on assignment for Getty Images or London News Pictures others where shot for the regional papers. Some where taken as part of projects I’ve been working on and even from the occasional wedding whilst others were shot while I was out and about and I just thought it made a nice picture!

But each in their own way remind me of something throughout the year and of what a busy, at times stressful but ultimately of what a rewarding photographic year it’s been…..let’s hope next year brings more of the the same!

All the best.

Traverse Fifty exhibition portrait

The Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh has a reputation for producing and presenting some of the best in new drama. This year marks fifty years since the theatre opened its doors in 1963 and to mark their anniversary the Theatre had offered 50 writers a year long attachment to the Traverse. Writers were invited to take part in a series of tailor-made writing events throughout 2013, including panel discussions and workshops. The year-long attachment will culminate in a new writing festival featuring some of the work developed by the Traverse Fifty throughout the year. At the end of the process three of the writers will be offered seed commissions.

To help support this the theatre took on fifty photographers each with the brief of producing a portrait of one of the fifty writers that they would be paired with and which would ultimately form part of an exhibition later in the year as part of the anniversary celebrations.

I was teamed up with Alison Carr. Alison is an award winning writer based in Newcastle and after I was put in touch with Alison we managed to get together and arrange a bit of a photo-shoot in Newcastle. Whilst the final picture that Alison and I chose for the exhibition was to remain under wraps until the launch yesterday I can now show the picture (below) that came out of meeting Alison and which will be exhibited along with the rest up in the Traverse Theatre from now until November 2nd.

I’d like to say cheers to Alison for being a good sport and for putting up with my can we just go over there” requests as we meandered around town looking for possible picture opportunities and hopefully this portrait reflects Alison and captures part of her character.

Alison’s  Website  and work can be seen by following this link and further pictures from the shoot I did with Alison can be seen by following the link….   here

UK Pro Surf Tour comes to Saltburn

The UK Pro Surf Tour came to Saltburn this weekend and fortunately the surf, the weather and the standard of surfing all made for a great weekend of competition surfing on this leg of the tour. Newquay’s Russell Winter eventually took the men’s title with Keshia Eyre originally from Manchester but who now who lives in Portugal taking the top slot for the women.

From here the tour now heads north to Thurso in Scotland before dropping back down in a few weeks to Tynemouth.

In between trying to take advantage of the surf and grabbing a few quick sessions myself I shot a few pictures during the competition…..

Further info on the tour can be found by following the link here…..  http://www.ukprosurf.com/
