Degrees of separation

Middlesbrough town centre hosted two demonstrations yesterday. The first was a counter demonstration held to celebrate diversity on Teesside and also to show opposition against an English Defence League demonstration that had been planned for later the same day…

My Year in Pictures 2013

So we’re fast approaching the end of yet another year and once again it has reached that time when it seems that every photographer with access to some sort of social media bombards the unwary viewer with a load of pictures that they’ve shot throughout the year……..and alas dear reader……I’m no different!

Now just to warn you – I’ve included quite a few pictures here – but then again it’s my blog so I can 😉 So grab a brew or a glass of your favourite Rioja, sit back and scroll through some of the pictures I’ve shot over this last year. Some were taken when out on assignment for Getty Images or London News Pictures others where shot for the regional papers. Some where taken as part of projects I’ve been working on and even from the occasional wedding whilst others were shot while I was out and about and I just thought it made a nice picture!

But each in their own way remind me of something throughout the year and of what a busy, at times stressful but ultimately of what a rewarding photographic year it’s been…..let’s hope next year brings more of the the same!

All the best.

UK Pro Surf Tour comes to Saltburn

The UK Pro Surf Tour came to Saltburn this weekend and fortunately the surf, the weather and the standard of surfing all made for a great weekend of competition surfing on this leg of the tour. Newquay’s Russell Winter eventually took the men’s title with Keshia Eyre originally from Manchester but who now who lives in Portugal taking the top slot for the women.

From here the tour now heads north to Thurso in Scotland before dropping back down in a few weeks to Tynemouth.

In between trying to take advantage of the surf and grabbing a few quick sessions myself I shot a few pictures during the competition…..

Further info on the tour can be found by following the link here…..  http://www.ukprosurf.com/

Life at Bleathgill

Stuart Buckle is a farmer in Cumbria. Stuart along with his father and the rest of the family own and run Bleathgill Farm which is situated a couple of miles off the A66 at one of the highest points on the fell. The recent heavy snow which is said to be the worst March that the country has seen in 50 years has caused some issues with the lambing season resulting in many of his Swaledale sheep having to be brought inside to lamb to avoid the harsh conditions outside.

Constant care is needed to ensure they have the best chance possible to give birth to their lambs and with this weather the simplest of tasks become more difficult.

As I photographed there today there was one successful birth resulting in two new lambs to add to the fold but the worry is that if the weather doesn’t improve soon the chances of a successful flock this year is reduced.

However one thing you can be assured of is that farming at this time of year in the snow covered Cumbrian hills is hard graft indeed.
