The Extinction Rebellion environmental protest group began their blockade of the Victoria Bridge in Leeds yesterday as the group begin a series of planned week long protests in five cities around the country.
Called “Project Mushroom” the group have said these protests will begin a week-long ‘summer uprising’ in Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Glasgow and London.
Leeds is the fastest growing financial district outside London and the protests in Leeds are against investment in the fossil fuel industry and police have issued warnings to banks and businesses in the city to plan in case of disruption.
Extinction Rebellion are a socio-political movement which uses civil disobedience and nonviolent resistance to protest against climate breakdown, biodiversity loss, and the risk of social and ecological collapse.
