I was in Newcastle today to shoot a demonstration by fishing boat crews who were taking part in a nationwide protest against the Brexit transition deal.
The event was organised by the group ‘Fishing For Leave’ and saw vessels muster at North Shields Fish Quay with several similar events taking place in other ports nationwide to make their opposition known to the Brexit Transition deal and in particular the Common Fisheries Policy which would remain in force if the Brexit Transition deal goes ahead.
Around 200 vessels mobilised in other flotillas around the country including Whitstable, Hastings, Portsmouth, Milford Haven and Plymouth.
The Newcastle flotilla headed upriver and passed under the Millennium bridge before mooring at the quayside for a short while. The fishing boats then returned to North Shields before dispersing with several of the vessels letting off red smoke and firing flares as they went.
I’ve done a black and white edit below of some of the pictures I shot as I was waiting for the start at North Shields Fish Quay and of the event itself.
