Six hundred candles set out on the floor in the form of the Star of David were lit during a special event to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day at Chapter House in York Minster yesterday.
The ceremony held in the Minster is part of a week-long programme of events across the City of York, the UK and internationally, making Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27.
The Holocaust genocide took place during World War II in Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany where aided by its collaborators they systematically murdered some six million European Jews.
