Opened in 1870 the current cliff lift at Saltburn is the oldest remaining water balanced cliff lift in Britain. At a height of 120 ft and with a length of track of 207 ft it reaches up the steep cliffs at Saltburn allowing people to enjoy the gentle ride down the beach – and back up again!
With the season beginning soon this coming Easter weekend the lift has just finished an overhaul and as the lift cars were pulled back into place by a crane yesterday it now sits ready to carry more visitors once again.
